Photoredox catalysis is a technique that utilizes the energy of light to catalyze chemical reactions via single-electron transfer events. This area is named as a combination of “photo-” referring to particles of light, or photons; and redox, a short term of oxidation-reduction, a process of electron exchange. When a light-sensitive compound is excited by
light, it mediates the transfer of electrons between chemical compounds to create new chemical bounds. Such reactions help discover new drugs, produce new or lessexpensive fine chemicals for flavorings pesticides, polymer materials, and other industrial chemicals.
